Qualification Description

This qualification reflects the role of massage therapists who provide general health maintenance treatments. It does not reflect the role of a remedial massage therapist. Therapists may be self-employed or work within a larger health service.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 80 hours of work in a simulated clinical environment as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Qualification Description

This qualification reflects the role of remedial massage therapists who work with clients presenting with soft tissue dysfunction, musculoskeletal imbalance or restriction in range of motion (ROM). Therapists may be self-employed or work within a larger health service.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 200 hours of work in a simulated clinical environment as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

Completion of this course enables qualified Remedial Massage Therapist to practise as a Myotherapist in their own practice, or as a member of a health clinic.
The vocational outcomes of the Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy are to:
• Establish and manage a myotherapy practice, including business skills and legal compliance.
• Manage health risks in a myotherapy environment, including aspects of health risk analysis, personal and premises hygiene, as well as infection prevention and control.
• Work effectively within a myotherapy framework, including working within clinic and regulation guidelines, achieving quality standards, preparing client education and health strategies, as well as ongoing performance development and working with other services/networks.
• Perform myotherapy clinical assessment; including accurately gathering and interpreting information to assess a client’s condition in order to provide myotherapy treatment.
• Plan myotherapy treatment strategy; including negotiating with the client.
• Provide myotherapy treatment according to the techniques and practices of a myotherapy framework.
• Provide myofascial dry needling treatments.
• Source and evaluate relevant research information and apply findings to own myotherapy clinical practice
• Employ communication techniques to establish, build and maintain relationships with clients, colleagues and other stakeholders.

22316VIC Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy supersedes and is equivalent to 22248VIC Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy.

FIRST AID

HLTAID011 First Aid Certificate is REQUIRED to meet Health Fund and Association compliancy's.

Nationally Recognised First Aid Certificate Courses are provided by Recognised Training Organisations (RTO) across Australia

It is the responsibility of the member to keep their First Aid up to date and provide a current copy of their certificate to the office in order to remain up to date with their Membership.
